Raquel Forner.

Raquel Forner painted catastrophe and survival. From the series The Drama, born of the Spanish Civil War and the Second World War, to the post-war Beings of Space canvases, she kept the human figure at the centre of a body of work that refuses both the realism of protest and pure abstraction.
Born in Buenos Aires and also trained in Paris, in the studio of Othon Friesz, she was a central figure of Argentine modernism and a co-founder of the free courses that renewed the country's art teaching. Her earthy palette and monumental women made her one of the most singular voices in Latin American painting.
Galeria Harmonia has represented Forner's painting holdings since 2020; it was the first gallery to bring together, in São Paulo, canvases from the artist's two great cycles.
